Godparenting Program
Incawasi’s God-parenting program was first started in 2006, when we realized that without some financial support, many of our children would be dropping out of school within the year.
Founders and volunteers therefore sent out an appeal to their families and friends back home to ask for donations, aimed at covering the children’s school fees. The response to our call proved much more successful than was ever expected; after only a few months, many of the children in Incawasi had a “Godmother” or “Godfather” to thank for the opportunity of attending school for another year.
Becoming a godparent is easy, just write us an e-mail at this address: incawasi@incawasi.org.pe.
We will answer any questions you may have, and provide information about a child you could sponsor, before you actually make your donation.
If you decide to sponsor a child, we will proceed to register you as a godparent for one school year. After we receive your donation, we will send you an e-mail with detailed information about the child (educational, health and family situation, with a picture of the child), as well as a thank-you card written by the child.
We ask godparents for a donation of 120 Euros (160 dollars), which covers the average costs of the children’s schooling fees and academic material, as well as additional expenses which might arise during the year such as clothing, medical and dentistry costs. Godparents are encouraged to send their donation in March, when the Peruvian school year begins, but it is also possible to contribute in monthly installments of 10 euros.
Children send a card or a note to their godparents about twice a year, generally at the beginning of the school year (March-April), and for Christmas. If you want to send the child a card or a present, you can do so using the Incawasi address, seeing as the postal service does not generally reach the marginal urban areas where the children live.
If you are in the EU, or have an EU bank account, the easiest way to contribute is to deposit in our German back account (one of our founders is German and has opened this account for Incawasi in her hometown), seeing as it is very expensive to transfer to our Peruvian account. The fees for making the transfer depend on the bank and country you are in, so ASK before donating. For some countries, such as Italy, it is very cheap, for others, such as England, it can be very expensive (if this is the case, see below for PayPal details).

Online Donation
If you are anywhere else, you can use PayPal, which is a SAFE way to send money on-line (www.paypal.com). The International Transfer Fees depend on the currency, and are in percentage to the donation. They are generally more convenient for everyone outside of Europe, and for some EU countries with high transfer fees (compare them with your bank ones!).
