Nutrition

In our centre the children receive breakfast and a warm lunch Monday through Friday. For many of them, this is the only real meal they eat each day. We have a cook who prepares all the meals with local seasonal produce, which she buys every morning in the market. We also work with a nutritionist who created a specific nutritional plan for each child, and taught our staff the best possible way of preparing food to compensate the kids’ nutritional deficiencies.

The daily meals we serve are possibly the most immediate and tangible benefit the children and their families receive from us. The families’ meager food supplies are therefore not further depleted during the nutrition1week, and the children receive a nutritional intake which their parents cannot afford to offer them. Meat, fruit, vegetables and beans are served consistently,  and are  integrated with multivitamin and iron supplements in the worst cases of malnutrition and anemia.

Sebastiana is our cook, who prepares breakfast and a hot lunch for the children every day. She has been working in Incawasi for over a year now, and her help is vital in providing the children every day with the correct nutritional intake. She is a mother herself to three wonderful children, which makes her the ideal person to deal with fussy children when they don’t want to eat!
