Social Work
Incawasi’s founders and workers firmly believe that to optimize the work we carry out daily with the children, a close cooperation with the family is necessary. We visit families regularly to get a better idea of their specific situation, and to offer help and consultation where it is needed.
Periodic meetings are also held in Incawasi with the mothers (most of our children coming from female-headed families). These meetings serve to facilitate the communication between the institution and the mothers. During meetings, we keep them informed about Incawasi’s work and projects, discuss the children’s conduct and grades, and occasionally carry out workshops with the mothers themselves, such as alphabetization courses and legal information about domestic violence. Above and beyond these specific activities, we are available at any time to offer legal advice and guidance in bureaucratic matters of all kinds.
Contact with other institutions and NGOs from Cajamarca is also a vital part of our social work. We network with other organizations so as to improve the services we offer, exchanging experiences and carrying out collaborations of various kinds. In the past we have joined initiatives led by institutions such as NATS (Ñinos y Adolescientes Trabajadores), MIMDES (Ministerio de la Mujer y Desarrollo Social), ADECCA MUJER (Association against domestic violence)
, Chibollitos (NGO for working children), and various collaborations organized by the Local and Regional Governments.
A relatively new area of social work at Incawasi is the development of short-term projects through which we hope to improve the services that we provide.
